The President of the Congolese Democratic Alternative Party (PAD), Emmanuel Ngouélondelé Mongo, on Wednesday urged Congolese people to embark on civil disobedience and shun the presidential election, slated for 12 July.
Saying that incumbent President, Denis Sassou Nguesso, wants to win at all costs, Mongo told a press conference: "I urge the Congolese people to embark on civil disobedience as soon as this press conference ends.
"Congo belongs to all the 3.5 million Congolese. We cannot continue to support a person who is pulling the country down. We need change. That is why I urge you to embark on civil disobedience," said the retired army general.
"We cannot talk about peace when the people lack the basic amenity. Peace can only come when the people can feed themselves, get good medical care and good schools," he said.
